What kind of work does your chief actuary do? Is it "traditional" actuarial work?

None. Here is his typical day:
1. Arrive at the office at about 8:45. 2. Go to morning break at 9:00 - 9:45. 3. Sit in a meeting from 9:45 - 10:45 making no attempt to show that he is the least bit interested. 4. Talk to his freinds and family (not MCI customers) from 10:45 - 11:30. 5. Go to lunch from 11:30 - 1:15. 6. Read his bible and talk to fellow church goers from 1:15 - 2:30. 7. Walk the building, pretending to have a meeting, from 2:30 - 3:00. 8. Talk to more people from 3:00 - 4:00. 9. Run out of the building at 4:00 hoping that nobody notices that he is leaving (as if we ever knew he was there). I can't wait to get that job!

I enjoyed reading the above posting.
I have found that unless you report to the chief actuary (which I didn't in my very first job, and I don't now), you probably have no idea what he or she does. I once was a chief actuary, so I have a little perspective. He or she probably attends lots of meetings, some of which are high level and confidential (should we buy a competitor? who should we let go if we have to lay people off?), and some of which are high level and ridiculous (should we paint the walls beige?). |

I have to get one of those jobs.
Seriously, does the chief actuary at your company/firm work as hard/harder than the staff actuaries? I've never worked for a loafer, just curious if it's common or not. |
