Fool me once, shame on you...

When Bush is elected (5-4), he does it fueled by Enron dollars. Enron is George Bush's number one career contributor, even allowing George Bush to use their private jet while touring the nation during his campaign. It is little surprise that George Bush's actions coincide with Enron's desires. Among George Bush's early actions is the appointment of Pat Wood as chairman of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC). Pat Wood is the personal choice of Enron CEO Ken Lay. Among the FERC's responsibilities is the assurance of "fair and reasonable" electricity prices. When California lawmakers appeal to the FERC to implemant price caps, Pat Wood declines. Even with electricity prices peaking as much as 3000% above previous year's levels, the federal govt. interprets this as "fair and reasonable", and refuses to implement price caps. George Bush, however, does offer some federal aid by having all federal buildings turn off their escalators. George Bush, Dick Cheney, and his team of "energy experts" agreed with Wood, claiming price caps would only prolong the crisis. Finally, in June 2001, the FERC gives in to intense political pressure and implements price caps. Since that time, there has not been a single rolling blackout.

US News and World Report magazine said the first draft of the speech was prepared for Powell by Vice President Richard Cheney's chief of staff, Lewis "Scooter" Libby, in late January.

According to the report, the draft contained such questionable material that Powell lost his temper, throwing several pages in the air and declaring, "I'm not reading this. This is b***sh**."

Cheney's aides wanted Powell to include in his presentation information that Iraq has purchased computer software that would allow it to plan an attack on the United States, an allegation that was not supported by the CIA, US News reported.

The White House also pressed Powell to include charges that the suspected leader of the September 11 hijackers, Mohammed Atta, had met in Prague with an Iraqi intelligence officer prior to the attacks, despite a refusal by US and European intelligence agencies to confirm the meeting, the magazine said.

The pressure forced Powell to appoint his own review team that met several times with Central Intelligence Agency Director George Tenet and national security adviser Condoleezza Rice to prepare the speech, in which the secretary of state accused Iraq of hiding tonnes of biological and chemical weapons.

US News also said that the Defense Intelligence Agency had issued a classified assessment of Iraq's chemical weapons program last September, arguing that "there is no reliable information on whether Iraq is producing and stockpiling chemical weapons."

Why are you quoting truth out and not News and World Report. There is absolutely no reason to be quotiong truthout and not the primary source of the story.

Actually, there is one reason. It is a bogus story, and the News and World Report isn't reporting this.

Basic rule, focus on the primary sources. I don't want to know that truthout is reporting something that the US News and World Report is reporting. If the relevant source is what the US News and World Report is reporting - quote the primary source.

Same thing with sources. Don't trust unnamed sources. Or even better, what an unnamed source says another unnamed functionary saw/heard/done.
