Dear forum members!
My name is Valentina Isakina and I am the Finance Practice Staff Actuary at the SoA.
As you know, the SoA is looking into the possible examination/education changes in light of the feedback it has received on the last educational restructure. Two different working groups have been created to look into the possible changes: the Preliminary Education Working group and the Actuarial Education (ie -upper exams+PD) Working Group. These groups will produce a report to the SoA Board of Governors with the proposed recommendations for changes. The QRA designation is part of the current discussion.
I need to find volunteers to serve on my Finance Practice Area Advisory Group. The Working Groups, as described above, will be making their recommendations based on the input from the Advisory Groups (each SoA practice Area - Health, Life, Retirement, Finance - has a separate Advisory Group). That is, each practice-specific Advisory Group will be charged with a broader and a more-encompassing practice-specific feedback to the Working Group representatives.
Criteria for a Finance Advisory Group representative: FSA or a career ASA, knowledgeable about the current educational system, knowledgeable in the subjects of Finance/Investments, eager to make the current education/examination system better.
If you are a person still taking exams, please approach a person fitting the requirements above in your company that you feel will be interested in participating (e.g. a study program director?). If you are not taking exams but fit the profile, please respond directly to me. This is your chance to get your voice and the voice of your company heard on the SOA education issue.
This is a rather urgent matter. I will reserve the right to select the final representatives in such a way as to prevent any company or line of business dominating the Advisory group. Please direct your candidates and any questions you may have directly to me at
visakina@soa.org.
Sincerely,
Valentina
