Default Who should pay...

For the sake of the poll, say that the guy probably would have asked the girl out eventually, but had a professional exam coming up.

Whoever ask should pay.

But then again I always believe that it's rude to reach for a check if you know that someone else is paying. It annoys me if a guy tries to reach for a check when I'm paying; even though I know he's just doing it to be polite. IMO, I feel saying "Thank-You" is enough to acknowledge that you appreciate my jesture.

Dude, six by nine isn't 42...unless that wasn't what you were going for

depends on the guy's intentions, and whether he is hoping for a second date.

I always offered to pay (and it was genuine, not the half-hearted "reach"), but if she wanted to, I would usually let her, if she had asked.

Sorry...I should have been a little more clear. It's not that their reach wasn't genuine, they were. It's just, perceived by me, as rude when I've already stated that I'd pay. And I do the same, if the check comes and I know that he's paying, I never reach for it. I always say "Thank You", but never go in my pockets if he has offered to take me out.

I guess I feel as if it's a slight blow to my ego when they reach for it or offer to pay, if I've already made it known that it's on me.

If the girl asks, it's her responsibility to pay. In my dating days, however, if the guy offered to pay half or all, I would let him, and then try to reciprocate with something he could more easily accept. (Cook dinner for him, suggest the movies since I have some movie passes to use up, something of that nature.) I never liked to throw someone's generosity back in their face.

That makes sense. I was assuming that you meant the check came, and you were still deciding. If you offered to pay, I would probably discuss it, if i wanted to pay, or just say thanks then, but I would never try to pay after we had agreed that you were, that seems insulting, as if you were insincere in your original offer.

Why don't the ladies ever let me pay for them? It's bloody annoying when the lass steals a bill and gives her credit card to the waiter before I can even blink.

Most clever thing a girl did to pay: I had fronted the bill (only about $20) much to her chagrin. Later in the evening as I was walking her back to her apartment, she stole my lucky pen which I always carry with me. I begged for it back and she kept teasing me about how she would keep it. Well, when we arrive at her front door which I can't get into without her keys, she opens it slightly, and hands me back the pen, quickly says goodnight, pecks me on the cheek, then rushes through the door giggling. Wrapped tightly around my pen was a $20 bill.

::sigh:: dang, I miss her.

That's a good one Vern. I may have to use that one day.
