Default Are the Asians taking over the field?

I know in this PC climate I'll be screamed at for mentioning a nationality; but I was just curious from looking at the list of passing candidates whether 75% of the actuarial world will be Asian (not that it bothers me). It's unreal what percentage of that list is clearly chinese, japanese, etc.

I don't know what race/geography you come from, so I can't make a true comparison.

But, Asians statistically are better at mathematics and have higher IQs (I'm not Asian) - I don't think that the passing list is surprising. As those economies pick up, more advanced services like actuarial work will become more prevalent.

Is this true? Or does their educational system teach them to be disciplined to reach your goals and the US system doesn't exactly teach that. I think it's more of a cultural thing than an IQ thing.

I agree it's a product of culture and our educational systems. The cultural part is that Asian students are generally more disciplined and will study harder. And as for education, we all know that Asian students are much better educated in math than the US.

I'm quite sure that your statement means that you didn't compare a handful of people you know to entire populations. Apparently my statement surprised a lot of people. I'm just re-stated the statistics, America is like 25th in the world in average IQ. Google it.

You might want to at least look at the page before you site it as any sort of evidence, because it is clear that the page is a discussion of a controversial (i.e. fake) table from a book including such useful estimation methods as: "In 104 of the world's nations there were no IQ studies at all and IQ was estimated based on IQ in surrounding nations.[1] For example, the authors arrived at a figure of 84 for El Salvador by averaging their calculations of 79 for Guatemala and 88 for Colombia. Those estimates are not included in the calculations of income differences and do not appear in the table below."

And seriously, if the population of Equatorial Guinea averaged an IQ of 59 then they probably would have trouble continuing on as a nation because they would be collectively suffering from mild mental retardation. Less than .4% of the people in the world test that low; I guess a large portion of them must be in Equatorial Guinea. They could take solace in the fact, however, that we no longer execute people in the US with IQs that are that low.

C'mon maxprime, do you believe anything you see or hear?
