Default study Manual

I am borrowing the Students guide to life contingencies manual by Cox and Pai by stipes publishing from a friend who used it for a class. I was wondering if anyone knows anything about the quality of this manual. I dont want to purchase asm yet because I am not sure if I am going to take MLC or just MFE.
