Has anyone used this for Exam 5? Any tips on how to progress?

When you log in to TIA, there is a proposed 10 week schedule to get through the material. That is how I'm going through things.

Agreed. I would also suggest that you strictly adhere to that program. I read the first three chapters of Werner & Modlin and it was incomprehensible to me. I gave up, forked over the cabbage for TIA and started the schedule. After hitting the Myhr and Markham textbook (which was absolutely murder) I could understand the first three chapters in W&M without a problem.

I guess I'm used to the following gameplan when it comes to TIA:

watch a video
work sample problems
repeat

I am thinking this seminar works a little bit differently:

read part of a paper
read notes on part of a paper
watch a video about that paper
practice w/notecards
repeat?

did i miss something or are there no practice problems/practice exams?
are there going to be notecards for werner/modlin?

Anyone else notice how SLOW the updates have been? According to my schedule I should be done week 5 this week but that's kind of hard when there is only one lesson up. Going to e-mail Ken, but was wondering if anyone else has the same frustrations?

If you did any kind of research beforehand, you'd have known that this has been an issue with the course in the past. If you didn't, I'd recommend it anytime you are paying over a grand. That being said, yes, the updates have been slow. However there really is nothing stopping you from reading ahead. This Basic Ratemaking book is so juicy I can't put it down! There is enough material that I find it hard to believe that anyone has nothing to do but wait for a video to be uploaded. In the spirit of not making new paragraphs, I will leave you with a suggestion. Don't buy TIA if the slow updates are a dealbreaker for you. For extra credit, you can convince your friends/coworkers to do the same. The rest of us will make due and probably pass with a superior product.

Last year he blogged he was making a new practice exam for 2009. Guess what never came....

Since I'm not watching videos until my second pass through, I'm just using the study manual. But yes, it is kind of annoying that it only goes through chapter 8. So reading ahead is fine, but you don't have all the problems readily available unless you go hunting to find them on your own.

I am feeling the same way. . . I heard Fikes was slow, but I didn't imagine it'd be this bad. I am already through chapter 8 (just finished chapter 12 today), but really need problems to check that I'm understanding everything. Has anyone e-mailed TIA yet? What kind of responses have you gotten back? I heard he releases things up to just two weeks before the exam . . . ugh! I have an All 10 Manual from 2007 . . . maybe I could try to dig some of those problems up?
