Default Securitization reduces balance sheets exposure??

Page 739 FIS - it says securitization reduces balance sheets exposure of bank. i dun quite understand what does this means? what will be the main difference on balance sheet if you issue ABS compared to if you borrow fund directly from a lender?

Helps are very much appreciated. thanks!
