Default Bying a new fridge

I've never bought a fridge in my life. They always came with the house. But apparently we need a new one because the ice-maker doesnt' work and the freezer doesn't drain properly so it leaks on the floor and because...of something else I can't remember right now.

Anywhoo, the wife has been doing some shopping and every place has free take away of the old one. I assume they recycle or sell them or something. What if I want to keep it and put it on Craigs List or something? Will they jack up the price of the one I am buying because they aren't getting a trade-in?

Thanks!
