I'm sleeping in our spare bedroom after our 2 year old kicked me out of our bed when I hear some yelling and then what sounds like a loud gun shot. Then someone on a PA saying something I couldn't make out. I use the skills I honed from watching The Wire to run into our bedroom and grab my wife and kid and pull them on the ground. After maybe a minute everything is quiet so I go look out the window. There have got to be 8 cars outside, most parked down teh street, with my neighbor across the street on his knees handcuffed They stay for a few more minutes and then everyone leaves at once. Some other things I noticed:
-What I thought was a gun shot was probably just the flash bang that they threw into the house -Out of the 8 cars I saw, there was only one squad car and all the other cars were unmarked. I didn't see a SWAT van or anything like that, although there were a couple guys dressed like SWAT team. -The whole thing took like ten minutes and after they left it was like noone was even there. I would think someone would stay to search the house. -Outside of waving hello, I don't know the neighbor very well. I've tried to think of anything suspicious about him and really can't think of anything. He does have a corvette which seems somewhat out of place in po' neighborhood filled with typical 3 br, 2 bath starter homes, but not that big of a deal. -The amount of people involved in arresting him makes me think they believed he was armed and dangerous, which bothers me. The whole thing really upset my wife. I tried to play it down to her by telling her whatever he did, he didn't do it here because otherwise they would've marked his house a crime scene (I have no idea if thats true or not, but she seemd to buy it) Anyway, thats the story of how I've been up since 4:30 this morning. |

You know that only dirtbag sleazeball criminals drive Corvette's. Why didn't you call the cops on him sooner?

This is the only thing that's happened since we've moved into the house a couple of years ago. Other than this, its been a pretty quiet neighborhood.

Yeah because criminals only live in bad neighborhoods. Once you buy a house for 300k+, you'll never see crime again. Ever.

The frequency of which the cops do stuff like this for minor offenders leads me to believe he was nothing more than a probation violator or small-time pot dealer.

There has grown up in the minds of certain groups in this country the notion that because a man or corporation has made a profit out of the public for a number of years, the government and the courts are charged with the duty of guaranteeing such profit in the future, even in the face of changing circumstances and contrary to public interest. This strange doctrine is not supported by statute or common law. Neither individuals nor corporations have any right to come into court and ask that the clock of history be stopped, or turned back. - Life-Line, Robert A. Heinlein, 1939 |
