Even if the protesters return, they may have to follow ridiculous new rules like "No sleeping bags" -- completely undercutting the permanent occupation that is raising the nation's awareness of corporate greed.
Funny, but not allowing a "permanent occupation" of a public park seems to me like just what a mayor should be doing. You want to go for a walk, have a picnic, even walk around with a sign for awhile, hey, try the park. You want to "occupy" somewhere "permanent"-like, call a Realtor(tm).

Also, I like to laugh at people who make First Amendment arguments about what they can do on private property.
Googling around, it's privately owned, but created for public use, in exchange of less restrictive height-limitations on the nearby buildings? So they probably can't just kick them out for the hell of it, but I don't think there's a first amendment right protecting tent cities.

Pretending it's about "Cleaning" is pretty immature imo.

Well, the protesters called their bluff on the cassus belli and cleaned the park up themselves. Look, it's only going to take one cold day and they'll all be out of there, so it's not going to last that much longer. The organizers should've started this thing in the Summer when they would've had a chance. Right now they're trying to plan for some in Canada, I mean, come on guys, it's practically winter now, it's not going to pan out.

Real hippies would have plenty of sweaters to survive the winter. Not to mention the few of their friends that got jobs at universities and have some money will loan them their Patagonia and North Face gear to survive the winter.
