Default Dilemma

So here's my dilemma: I want to buy one of two things, which have very different purposes and uses, and I would like some advice on which to buy now and which to buy in, maybe, a year or 2 from now.

Option 1: personal and family protection in the form of a handgun (with locked case) or shotgun (with locked case). This was, in my opinion, becoming imminently necessary last summer when it looked like society was about to fall apart. Now, not so imminent, but still a good idea, I think.

Option 2: weight bar and some bounce plates, so I can start doing more lifting in the garage and not ignoring it because it takes an extra half an hour to get to the gym and back and I feel like that is wasted time so I just do some pushups and don't really get any kind of lifting workout at all.

What says the AO? Option 1 or option 2? And why?
