is anyone doing the TIA MFE Seminar next week in chicago? if you are, just wondering what everyones status is... and if anyone has been to that seminar, advice is welcome.

i've finished all the odd ASM problems, haven't started SOA problems or any PE's. i've also watched the TIA modules for the most part, except for the easier ones. but i haven't done any of the TIA questions yet (don't know if it's worth my time anyway honestly)

I am going to the TIA seminar. I watched all the modules and have been reviewing the tougher sections in ASM, (i.e. CIR/Vasicek, MCV, and itos lemma). I have done a few PEs in ADAPT, but haven't gotten over level 3 yet so I am really really hoping the seminar helps.

Started Lesson 1 practice problems. It's weird not dealing with volatility. I always feel like I'm forgetting something...

I am going through ASM Chapter 11 where we learn a slightly different formula for Historical Volatility than what we learned in Section 6.3. It is not completely clear. Which formula should we use?

I know the difference in answers with each formula will be very small.

The theoretical answer is to use the formula that squares the only the returns when h is "very small," but you probably already know that.

In the exam, I will use the formula which squares the difference between the returns and the mean return, by using the stat functions on my caluclator.

Unless we can think of a reason that would not be the best route to go...

Just finished ASM and I'm now getting into review mode. I'm starting with the SOA76. What is the general consensus on these regarding their difficulty relative to the difficulty of the actual exam?
