Default Lacking of experience!!

Hello guys I am a actuaial student in Canada, I know that I am totally lacking of working experience. Therefore, I am planing to work at some volunteer jobs such as library or hospital( The reason I choose library and hospital is that they are usually well organized unit) before I apply to a actuarial job after I graduate. Do you guys think it would help? Any other suggestion?

Thx
Peter

If you are going to be working for nothing anyway, I'd email some local firms and tell them you'd be willing to work just for the experience. My guess is that actuarial experience is better then volunteer experience if you aren't going to be paid either way.

Or, if you wish to go the volunteer route, perhaps a financially oriented organization, like a consumer credit counseling agency would be the ticket. Or an Agency for Aging that needs volunteers to help the elderly file insurance claims (maybe they don't do this in Canada with national health, I don't know.)

I would not delay a job search to do this though. Perhaps simultaneous?

Agreed. Keep looking while volunteering. I love to see volunteering on resumes.

It will help those for whom you volunteer. It will not likely help you much for obtaining an actuarial position, especially if we figure out that you only volunteered to get experience.
