I once had a phone interview with a company and the manager that interviewed me told me over the phone she would like to bring me in for a home office at the end of the interview. She said I just need to fill out an online profile, so I did. The next day I got an automated rejection e-mail from HR. I hate HR...

why would you hate HR?. They didn't reject you, he did. Actuaries are notorious for gratuitous lying during the interview process.

Not actuarial-related, but in college I applied for a prestigious summer internship at a research institute. Applications, letters o' recommendation, etc. One evening weeks later I got a call offering me the position, what scientist I'd be working for, and what research project I'd be working on. Fantastic. Thrilled beyond belief. Accepted it immediately. I had just enough time to brag share my good fortune with my friends and to call my parents to tell them the good news. Then I got a call back from the same person at the same institute saying oops, sorry but there's been a clerical error and we meant to offer the position to someone else. I did not actually scream YOU'VE GOT TO BE ****ING KIDDING ME!!! into the phone, but I'm sure the tone of my voice conveyed that emotion quite eloquently. Then I got to explain to my friends and folks that, um, that big news I just told you about? Not so much.

same thing happened to me once but the rejection came back after 2 weeks, after I inquired about it. Another one is HR left me a voice mail on my cell and house phone to give her a call back. But the convo consist of you have been rejected lol'd. I guess the only explanation would be the HR thought those were my work phones then I guess that would be nice of her.

No she didn't. I called her and she was pissed at HR. We ended up scheduling the interview, so it was definitely HR, not the manager.

Well played. You have a fine future in the profession.

I am looking at a 13 page form myself right now... Wouldn't want to fill the thing out just to get a "you are not good enough" rejection letter.
If it's from my practice (and it seems to be, given what has been said above), we don't send the extended form unless we're considering you (so if you've got that, then we're considering you), and many people will review it (we spend a lot of time on these).

Feel free to PM me with any additional questions.

Talk about efficiency!

It took me about an hour to put the online application together. Other than the usual questionnaire, I attached my transcript, resume, and cover letter.

By the way, this was not an immigration issue.

I think the quickest I saw was 2 days. But that was because they screened me out of the position I applied for and instead were planning on interviewing me for another.

That's great to hear! It took me some time to fill out the form but I think it was worth it, if only to have answers to important questions in an organized form.
