I used to work for a company that did this, so I created a quick launch shortcut that pointed to the URL that I wanted to be my home page and used that in lieu of the stock web browser icon.

I don't think core services like email and calendar are going anywhere, but anything else can vanish at a moment's notice.

It's also a lesson in data ownership. Be sure you have offline copies of anything web-based tool made by Google.

I don't see anything on that page except for some icons from recently viewed web pages.

If you’re a fan of Google Chrome, the Chrome Web Store provides a similar range of options like productivity tools and applications to check the weather. In addition, just like iGoogle, you can personalize Chrome with a theme.
But it makes no sense to me.

I've tried Chrome, but I hesitate to use it because I like to have my bookmarks displayed on the side of the screen, so that I can just go down the list clicking and visiting the websites I visit on a daily basis. I can do that with Firefox, Opera, IE, but not, as far as I've been able to tell, with Chrome.

See, Google is just copying Apple by killing off unused products. Once again Apple is the leader and everyone else follows
