Default GSU MAS program info

Hi

I am planning to apply to GSU for MAS program for Spring 2013. I have few questions regarding it if someone who is already graduated or currently studying from GSU advice me on this would be a great help!

1. What are GRE minimum requirement for MAS?
2. How about the job placements?
3. Does the program prepares you well for SOA exams?
4. Any actuarial exams and experience would be beneficial for the admission?

I have 2 years of actuarial experience from india/uk and have 2 actuarial exams from soa would that help in admission.

Regards,
Shruti

Question

Just curious: If you already have some exams and some experience, why do you want a graduate degree in actuarial science?

I graduated from GSU with an MAS in 2008. However, my background before hand was non-actuarial. If you already have 2 SOA exams and experience, you should just focus on finding a job.

1. I got Gre score of 162 in Quant and 154 in Verbal and did get an admission in Georgia's MAS program. I had 3 years of non-actuarial work experience, so may be I was given preference even with low quant score. My equivalent old Gre score range as per ETS is 1300-1350. Not to forget that your undergrad score, work ex, SOP and recos can make up for low gre score.
2. I too consulted from members(who were alumni of Georgia State) of this forum while I was applying for fall 2012 batch and I was told that placements are very good with > 30 companies visiting campus every year of which around 10-12 companies are willing to recruit international students
3. Ofcourse , Georgia's MAS is very much recognized program in USA and has excellent faculty. It ranks very high in insurance/risk management dept. I was told that they offer good education and support for international students.
4. The purpose of MAS program is to build up strong actuarial basics and help you clear Actuarial exams especially if you are changing career from Non Actuarial to Actuarial domain . If you clear one exam, you will surely get very high preference. But if you have cleared two, not that it is problem, but it would be good mention in SOP as to why you want to pursue MAS program. But yes, you will be given preference.

PS: I chose UIUC over Georgia for personal reasons.
