From the USAToday article I read:
Quote:
Developers who donate $699 on Kickstarter get a console, two controllers and a game development kit. They will keep 70% of game revenues; Ouya gets 30% — typical of online and mobile game models.
So while not licensing the games, Ouya is going to get 30% of game revenue.

If they advertise/push those features, plus an open source gaming service for $100, it should win out over Boxee and Roku boxes (Apple TV still has the iTunes ecosystem hook that I doubt Ouya could beat right now).
I can already do all of those things on my Xbox 360. Except NFL, but soon MNF will be available and it will be tough to get something like NFL Sunday Ticket.

That's assuming people will pay money for games. Hacking is encouraged. I would expect there to be hacked free versions of most games.

OK, if they can get a 30% cut that would probably make up for the losses of selling @$99.

But since it's not a walled garden, developers can sell their games separately from Ouya's services, so I'm interested to see how they're going to make that business model work.

Well we don't really know how walled it is going to be.

If you note on the $699 developer level you get:

A first-run OUYA (already rooted so you can just get going), EARLY SDK ACCESS, an extra controller, and we'll help you get started. We'll also help you promote your game for ONE YEAR, and your games will be marked with a FOUNDER EMBLEM.
emphasis added. And how are they going to 'promote your game for ONE YEAR' and mark them 'with a FOUNDER EMBLEM' if they are not controlling the distribution of the games?

They will have their own app store. It will probably be along the same lines as the Amazon App Store with their free premium app of the day.

But I am guessing your regular old droid game isn't going to work very well on the ouya since not many people have touch screen TV's and it isn't set up to work that way anyway. So I am guessing most of their games and apps are, at least initially, going to be available only from their app store. So it will have some walls. And again there was that thing in the developers pack about a rooted system.

That's awesome. Kickstarter is over, but you can preorder on their site.
