You would think there would be set procedures to follow in a society where it is that easy to make copies of people.

Sure, you would make nightly backups for the first couple years, but then it becomes once a week. Then once a month. Soon, you aren't sure when you did the last backup.
When you get your newest backup, which may be a couple of years old, you realize that technology has changed and you don't have anything to read the old file. After a long search, you find equipment that can read the old file. When you try to read it, the error message shows up "Cannot read file. File may be corrupted." You try a file recovery program. It manages to reclaim most of it, but there are still sections missing. You do your best to fill them in based on what you remember of what Mike 1.0 was like back then. So, now you have Mike 2.0. But he is younger and doesn't work quite right. And you wish he had better resolution. |

And, what were you doing in the week between hearing that Mike 1.0 might be dead and finding out that he might pull through? Didn't you go to the hospital? Didn't you check out the doctor? What if Mike 1.0 got a friend to pose as a doctor so he could go to South Padre for spring break?
How quickly do you say "out with the old, in with the new"? "Suzy missed curfew? I'll just make Suzy 2.0." |
