This was the last game of pool play. Two two teams advance out of each pool. The way our pool shook out, we had to win today to advance.

We were home team. Bottom of 1st, our leadoff batter hits a home run!
Top of 3rd, the other team answers with a run after stringing a couple of hits together.
We had chances in the 4th, 5th, and 6th innings to score, but we just couldn't get a bounce. Hitting balls right on the money, but right at guys.

Our pitcher was rolling.

Goes into extra innings. Our pitcher finally runs out of pitches (in LL, 85 pitches max). We put in our #3 (#1 was unavailable due to a boneheaded mistake we made in the first game).

The other team scores 3 in the top of the 7th. Oh crap! And none of them are good hits. Bloop singles, etc. We're screwed, right?

We come back and load the bases. We score one (I don't even rememeber how). THen our #8 hitter comes up and strokes a solid single to left center. Two runs score. We tie it up.

We shut 'em down in the 8th. Bottom of 8. Leadoff man gets a hit. #2 hitter tries to lay down a bunt, twice. Both fouled off.

So what does he do. Puts a sweet swing on the ball. Two run bomb to left center. Game over. We live to play another day. We are advancing to the final 8 of our state tournament. Unbelievable.

Now it's single elimination. We lose, we go home. Our pitching is kind of goofed up right now because we HAD to win today. But I like the momentum we brought into today's contest.

Sounds like the Mets/Nats game last week. Or the Bears/Yankees game from a few years ago.

Good luck

It's good to see how everyone on your team holds up in a win or go home scenario before going up against the big guns. I would also make them run laps for taking their sweet damn time that game. Strike first, strike hard, no mercy imo.

The game was about 35 years ago. Very dramatic finish. It was odd in that the losing team celebrated more than the winning team.

Is there a story about it on the internet or something? Sounds interesting.

My rally cap worked. Now, I won't change my underware until you lose. Gotta keep the luck going.
