Job Title: Pricing Actuary
Department: AmTrust - Unique Risk Underwriting Division Location: New York City Summary AmTrust is a multinational specialty property and casualty insurance holding company with operations in the United States, Europe and Bermuda. AmTrust principally provides workers compensation and customized property and casualty coverages for businesses and extended warranty coverages for consumer and commercial goods. The Unique Risk Underwriting (URU) Division is a team of senior insurance professionals (with capital markets, actuarial, accounting and insurance backgrounds) based in New York, Bermuda, London, Dublin and Luxembourg, focused on structuring re/insurance solutions for clients. Operations are predominately but not limited to the property and casualty field. They include strategic acquisitions, captive solutions, life settlements and structured re/insurance transactions. Business is conducted on a direct and reinsurance basis through brokered and direct channels, and is worldwide in scope. The culture of URU is entrepreneurial, opportunistic and deal orientated. Functions • Work in a team environment with underwriting, accounting, legal and regulatory professionals. • Routinely meet with clients to assess their needs, resources and potential solutions. • Independently research marketplace standards and trends to accurately access the loss potential of individual transactions. • Conduct a full range of actuarial and financial analysis to quantify the risk exposures presented by clients. • Build detailed stochastic models of risks and contractual terms related to individual transactions. • Propose recommended pricing for transactions consistent with the profitability standards of the group. • Document and present actuarial analysis to the underwriting committee. • Provide professional peer review to other team members. • Support accounting and financial reporting functions with respect to completed transactions. Qualifications include • Extensive actuarial background with experience in most lines of insurance. • Broad overall knowledge of insurance, with a working knowledge of accounting, regulatory and tax issues. • Demonstrated experience with quantitative risk analysis and simulation modeling. • Strong communication skills with the ability to convey technical concepts to management and other functional areas. • Three to seven years of actuarial experience. • Knowledge of capital allocation and risk adjusted return models. • Near ACAS or ACAS. • Ability to manage concurrent projects. • Reinsurance pricing experience is highly desirable. • Knowledge of medical malpractice insurance is a plus but not essential. • International experience is highly desirable. • Deal-making, creative and flexible mentality preferred.
