I interpret this a little differently. I think the US is racing to the sort of education that does well on standardized tests, but does not encourage original thinking as well. China is doing the opposite, from what I understand. From talking to people, my anecdotal, limited experience is that Chinese schooling does a better job of giving students specialized knowledge, but doesn't prepare them to think on their own as well. (This would include college.)

Please just move back to China already. Your nationalism will help you go far.

They dont say otherwise. You are just making shit up. What I am telling you is the truth. The students dont have to work hard once they get admission into the top chinese Universities like peking. They spend their teenage years studying like machines to get into University, but after that it is just a joy ride. The ones that want to gtfo of china work super hard to get into top american PhD programs.

The ones that work hard in University are the indian students at top indian schools like those in the IIT system.

Eh, it's kind of like that here in the U.S. Once you get into that elite special liberal arts school, it's just a joy ride and handshakes with a bunch of rich kids (then again, if you were born poor, they won't want to hang out with you).

What needs to happen is that once you make it into an elite school, they need to keep the failure rate at around 30% to maintain the pressure and have them compete (which I think still happens at some engineering schools).
