First, you do realize you replied to a post that's 5 years old, right?
![]() Second, having the ACAS/FCAS means that the CPCU folks will waive exam 540 (the finance one). For a lot of folks this is irrelevant because they took 540 to fill the VEE credit to get the ACAS in the first place. |

And I hold it against applicants that spread themselves thinly rather than focusing on actuarial exams.

One data point, I don't know of any CAS candidates who take CPCU exams. |

I apologize for reviving this old thread again, but I want to make sure that I'm not looking at the wrong information.
According to the CPCU Equivalency chart on aicpcu.org, which I think is the official website for the CPCU, you get the following CPCU credits effective starting January 2011: FCAS or ACAS: CPCU Electives Waiver CAS Courses 1 and 2: CPCU 500 and CPCU 520 Since getting FCAS or ACAS requires Courses 1 and 2, you automatically get credit for 3 CPCU exams. And like MightySchoop said, you could take CPCU 540 for VEE credit. So that's 4/8 of the CPCU exams. An CAS actuary can get credit for half the CPCU exams just by taking exams for a CAS designation. Please let me know if the information is incorrect, which may be the case if the Equivalency Chart has changed, although I just googled "CPCU Equivalency Chart" today, so it should be the most updated chart. |

I'd just call or email them if you're not sure. It seems to me that they're more likely to know about their own requirements.

Or, if you have a spare weekend, you could just take the CPCU exams themselves.

FYI it takes less effort to get the entire CPCU designation than to get a 2 on a single exam, and they have test windows that cover the time while waiting for results. If it's actually slowing down people's actuarial exam progress, they aren't going to get through the exams. JMO.
