We did Tarp, QE1, QE2, Operation Twist, Operation Twist 2 and still CPI remains below the Fed's 2% target. Seems that you actually can print trillions of dollars for years on end and create negligible inflation. All is well.

More than one thing can happen at the same time.

lending down ==> money supply down
printing money up ==> money supply up

do both ==> ???

He's using "an increase in the general price level", whereas you would probably use "an increase in the money supply".

maybe it's time to sell my gold. all the old jewelry i used to wear in high school and college. rings, earrings, necklaces, bracelets. surely a mixture from 10k to 24k. well, maybe not 24k, definitely some 18k.

so what happens to the stones that are in some of the pieces?

If it is a jeweler that buys the jewelry, they probably keep the stones and use them in new products. If it isn't, then the buyer probably turns around and sells them to a jeweler.
