I only saw him once, a few years ago with Herbie Hancock and Roy Hargrove on their "Directions in Music" tour. He and his brother, Randy, put out some badass music. The Brecker Brothers funk albums are must-haves.

A sad day in music indeed. The Brecker Brothers' works, together and solo, are outstanding.

I saw him with Paul Simon at an outdoor concert in Jersey in the early 90s. During the "intermission" he put on a really cool show using a sax-based synthesizer. I also remember his stuff with "The Brecker Brothers".

He used the sax-based synthesizer on at least one song of the concert I was at. The song either was, or was a very close musical cousin to, "Black Market" by Weather Report. It was the highlight of the show to me.

I played with his brother, trumpeter Randy.
(Actually, he was the guest soloist with our college jazz band - Harpur Jazz Ensemble - Binghamton.) Both brothers were great, but from what I heard of both, I thought Michael was better. RIP, Michael |

The Brecker Brothers played on The Boss's song 10th Avenue Freeze-Out.
