Depends on the level of friendship. At all levels - like in college if I had a party and invited all my friends, it would have included a lot of people that lived in the dorms around me. They are now people that I would enjoy hanging out with, but the group of people I consider good friends is much smaller, but I would say that group is always growing.

I picked later, because I think I have more friends now than when I was in school. I was painfully shy when I was younger and had trouble making friends. I think that's changed as I've gotten older and I've made quite a few friends at the places I've worked. But as someone else mentioned, there are different levels of friends. I have a couple of really close friends, and then some work friends who I consider closer friends than others.
