Default bootini.exe??

I think it's pronounced "boot-i-en-i."
Anywho, on the home PC I get a message upon startup (but after Windows screen with the available user names) stating that this file does not exist.
Question, with two paths: Is it supposed to exist? If so, how did it get corrupted or deleted? If not, why is this message trying to get me to find the file?

I'm concerned as always with computer virii. Various firewalls and virus scanners render my PC practically useless.

Anyone have any thoughts on this?
