Default CAS Mailing List for sale?

ANyone else get the CAS office weekly bulletin?

in includes a link announcing the first "platinum sponsor" of the CAS. for 15k, the benefits are here:
http://www.casact.org/cms/files/Soci...s_Brochure.pdf

one time use of CAS mailing list. love to know the mechanics of that. does that mean the CAS broadcasts a message from the sponsor to everyone on the list on behalf of the sponsor?

count me as a non-fan of this.

A $500 value!

They will spend more than $500 in staff time responding to the blizzard of complaints they will get if they ever do send out such an email.

And the first "platinum sponsor" is a competitor of DW Simpson: here

I was surprised to see that it wasn't DWS, who is usually all over this sort of thing. I wonder if they aren't interested as well, or if this is something that Pryor approached them about and had customized behind the scenes.

Between the pass lists and the directory, it's not as though most of this information isn't accessible already, it would just seem to save the "Platinum" sponsors a good deal of work to give them a base list they could update with directory and pass list info. I'm not expecting a sudden increase in communications from Pryor.

If I got anything from her, that might be considered a sudden increase. If I responded, it would be a total anomaly.

You don't get the e-mail holiday greetings? Those are pretty spiffy. Come to think of it, that's soemone else. I don't hear from Pryor. Just see ads.

But my response rate is probably equal to yours, to both firms.

dws gives miney to the cas and actuarial foundation every year. it gets mentioned in some publication (actuarial review) or at the annual meetings. so this sounds like a separate money grab.

For $3,500 Bruce Schobel could make welcome remarks at the Opening Day luncheon. I'll bet the $600,000 is burning a hole in his pocket. He could start with "I'd like to begin by recognizng CAS past presidents who have also served the Academy so admirably...
