Default Mmmmm...Donuts...(and bagels and muffins)

We have them free in the cafe every Fri morning. I'm sure some of you have them free every day. Well, I notice that there are both cinamon twists and cinamon roll donuts (the same dough as the glazed). Are these two things just the same, but different shape?

I had a cinamon twist, powdered cinamon donut and a scored garlic bagel with garlic & herb schmear on one half and onion & chive on the other. Mmmmmm....

Do people really count calories?
I've never done it, it sounds like too much trouble.

Only in a topological sense.

I try to, but it is not that easy.

I went to a convenience store once for a snack. I chose between a Krispy Kreme donut and a blueberry muffin. I know, one KK donut has about 200 calories. I looked at the muffin label quickly and saw 215 calories. So I got the muffin since I thought it is better than the donut and about the same calories. Before I ate the muffin, I decided to read the calorie label again. It said 215 calories per serving. Serving size is 1/3 muffin!

It depends. I am alway concious of calories when making choices. Sometimes the info is not available, so it's a best guess. I do it more so during the week when I exercise, trying to figure out how much I burned and consumed. I don't actually write it down, etc. Although I used to do that. I had a journal of how much I burned, and item by item how much I consumed, included fat grams. I can be obssessive that way sometimes

I kinda do.

I went on Weight Watchers a while back, and it worked and I loved it. I think it's different now (Flex Points or somehing, I dunno) but back then you still counted points. They gave you this little cardboard calculator to figure out how many point is in something. I figured out that the basic formula is roughly 50 to 60 calories per point, round down if it's got a lot of fiber (3 or 4 grams), or round up if it's got a lot of fat (6 or more grams.)

So, if I put on a pound or two, and I wanna lose it, I just start keeping track of points for a week or two. But, all I'm doing is counting calories and trying to limit fat and eat a lot of fiber.

Having met Elisha in person and reading his posts about all the exercise that he does, I doubt he blinks at caloric content.

It is a lot of trouble, but it works. I had been going to the gym 5 times a week for about a year, but wasn't losing any weight. So I started keeping a food diary, with rough estimates of how many calories were in everything. It's funny, but just making yourself write down everything you eat makes you take notice of how "snacky" (to use Frenchie's word) you are throughout the day. I've lost 30 pounds so far and I'm still working at it.
