It was face-up pai gow so didn't matter. Couldn't beat 5-5

Yes - new variation which is now that only variant in Iowa. Dealer sets hand face-up, offset by all players pushing on dealer Ace-high pai gow.

Which hand, the 5-card or the 2-card?

Technically should have put the Ah7h as the Lo hand.

But dang, nh! Was there a progressive jackpot in that game?

Also, explain the push rule.
Or, just the whole rules of this game, since it seems different from regular pai gow.

It's same as PGP, you make a 2 card hand and a 5 card hand - both hands must beat the dealer to win, both hands must lose to the dealer to lose, else push.

Face-up PGP is exactly the same premise, except the dealer sets his hands face-up before players set theirs. Makes the game easier to play (attracts more ploppies). This variation also doesn't necessitate a commission. The way the casino offsets this advantage is to make all dealer ace-high pai gow hands a push.

Since the dealer showed two pair, my 7 card straight-flush could not possibly win (no two cards in a flush can beat a pair of 5s), and coincidentally could not possibly lose (no 2 cards make a flush (can't foul), and no 5 cards don't make a flush). Ergo, setting my hand was completely arbitrary.
