Default DOL fiduciary rule and Life Ins sales impact?

I'm quite new to Life insurance and wanted to know about the DOL fiduciary rule. Aside from googling, are there any good articles about the history of the Department of Labor's Fiduciary rules, and the corresponding impact to life insurance sales? Ideally covering how sales may be shifting towards/away from certain channels as a result, or how insurers may be revising some sales channels in anticipation of upcoming or previous DOL fiduciary rulings.

I don't sell anything like this, but I would think only the life products that function as investment vehicles could be under this, right? Term and whole - any schmoe can sell those
