That's part of the reason to start now with getting hydrated. And why you work on (gradual) water intake rather than "chugging".

When I'm skiing or hiking at altitude, I'm surprised at how much additional water I need to drink compared to being at home.

i usually wear a camelback so i can stay hydrated.

if you're coming up the gondola from town you will be starting at Canyon Lodge. That's usually super-crowded so i'd recommend riding up that once, then working your way over to chair 21 and/or chair 10 (Gold Rush i think), or try chair 25/chair 9.

nothing at the top for beginners, but the view is spectacular.

chair 12 and 13/14 (on the backside) are fun and less crowded, but that is all the way on the other side of the mountain.

June mountain is great too. you won't regret going there for a day. take the scenic loop if it's open - that's a beautiful drive.

Three months of getting hydrated? OK.

I like the idea of a camelback. Also carrying a boda bag for other essential liquids, of course.
(People still do that?)

I consider myself a high intermediate. At least I was 15 years ago. I would try expert trails and not enjoy it. (Part of the fun is finding a way down without getting killed or maimed.)

I have never been yet. Always stayed near 15, choice between walking to slope and driving an hour is a no-brainer. This time it's a little different since it's being planned by someone else (in the olden days, I was planning the trips for several couples). Since the lift passes work for both, I'll suggest it to the planner.

Getting there and staying there and allowing your body to know to be there.

Once you get to that higher elevation, your body will react. As others have pointed out, your water need at the higher elevation is going to be higher--even with the cooler weather. Especially with the cooler weather!

Got it.
Quick note: I have skied before. Canada, Aspen, Utah, Tahoe, Snowshoe,...

Though, not at this age.
