I've completed 50% of my first read through of source material last night but I'm already pretty far behind of where I wanted to be. What method are others using? Source materials? Manuals? Flash cards?

Wow! I'm 25-30% through (using TIA, and reading the source where the manual doesn't seem to have enough) almost finished LP107.

I'm going to switch to reading the source regardless now that the material is becoming more complex.

Think I'm gonna go with the PAK Study Manual and the PAK Exam Aid, as well as ACE flashcards.

Don't rush and feel like you have to catch up. Determine your pace, set a schedule, and stick to it. You've got plenty of time!

For anyone that got an early jump and downloaded the syllabus before July, note that the SOA decided to drop the case study for fall 2015. One less thing on your list!

I am a bit confused. I don't see any case study for any of the past LP exams. Did I miss anything?

The original F 2015 LP Syllabus mentioned a case study (probably a mistake all along) which the SOA has just officially released an update that there is NO case study in the "Updates" on the SOA LP homepage ... but you're right, since LP has been known as LP, there has never been a case study.

Nope, it's really a non-event from your perspective. As Garry mentioned, there have not been any case studies for prior versions of LP. Before LP, ILA exams sometimes had case studies, so you might see these in older SOA exam problems.

My sense is that the committee wanted to bring the case study concept back but they were not able to finalize one soon enough and decided to cancel it for fall 2015. Normally when exam committees include a case study, they try to get it in your hands early enough to give you time to review it before the exam date -- so I think they just canceled it as a courtesy to students.

I would not be surprised if a case study eventually re-appeared on the LP syllabus. They make for more interesting exam questions in some ways. But that's not going to happen this fall.
