Default How often do you get a new cell phone?

i'm probably on a 9-12 month cycle, so spending money i don't need to. mrs yoyo usually takes my old phone so we're getting 18-24 months use out of each phone.

I seem to have kept the last few phones about 2 years, if I liked them. Sold and replaced them in a couple of months if I didn't.

My husband also buys new, on about the same schedule.

I was previously 18-24 months, but I have a 2 year old nexus 6P and I don't see much reason to upgrade. New phones aren't that exciting.

(I replaced the battery recently)

Since I repair phones, I usually am searching for deals and will occasionally upgrade early if I find a really good deal. For example, I found a Pixel XL with a tiny crack in the corner for $350. It was $130 to get it fixed. Then I used it for about 3-4 months and sold it for $475. Basically, I used a Pixel XL for 3-4 months for $5. Not bad.

Most of the really good deals I get are boot looping and otherwise totally not working phones that I turn around and get warranty replacements for and then sell. Basically a couple of hours of talking to the manufacturer, shipping the devices, etc will net me a couple hundreds dollars.

Under normal circumstances, I'm a 24 month guy.

why are you 24 monthers getting new phones at that time? performance slowdowns, reduced battery life, stuff like that? contracts aren't much of a thing any more, right?

In the past, I've mostly gotten new phones because there was something on the market I wanted. This time it's mostly because my battery is dying, and I can't find a replacement. Which is why I'm seriously considering buying a newer instance of the same phone.

Why do you buy new phones?

Last phone was 3 years. Probably every 2 years before that(on contract). Current phone is 1yr old and hoping for at least 2 more out of it.

Last phone was 3 years. Before that was 2 because of the contract subsidization which isn't a thing anymore.
