(Sometimes I dl podcasts "aspirationally". "Oh, a 3-hour panel discussion on the Singaporean healthcare system? Well, I'm not interested in listening to it right now, but maybe one day I'll be ready for it and also off of WiFi, so I'd better download it immediately before I forget!")

This weekend I was in a drugstore. An employee (guy, about 20) helped me find something to drink.

Then he asks me "where do I buy an iphone? and not pay like $600?" [I know, this is an android thread, deal with it]

So I told him about swappa - which of course I learned about from this thread.

It was a very random conversation.

When I was checking out I asked him why he asked me that. he said his friend broke his iphone and he wanted to help him out....

I said "No, why did you ask ME that question?"

He said it was just a hunch.

In retrospect, maybe it was the R2-D2 shirt and the new extra-geeky glasses

The new Pixel will always have whatever song is playing automatically at the bottom of the lock screen. I'll probably buy it just for this feature alone, TBH.

Im not even sure what this means. Maybe if i played music on my phone more often it would make sense? My phone has an "alert" that contains major controls for my music app, if anything is playing. Is it like that?

I had to Google what he meant. He means it's like the phone's constantly doing a Shazam/Soundhound on music playing around you.

oh, that sounds sort of cool. And just a little creepy.

Not having an audio-out jack is a big downside for me. I rarely listen to recordings from my phone, but when I do, I generally plug the phone into an amp and also into a power supply, and play for an extended period.

Eh, the Google creepy ship sailed long ago.

I have most of the creepy features turned off. The usefulness-to-creepy ratio was too low. When they were on, my phone used to give me unwanted info such as how long it would take to drive home from the office at 2:30 in the afternoon (I take the train -- this was totally useless info.)

I suppose if I bought into the google "ecosystem" there might be a higher ratio. But I don't even use gmail routinely, so the usefulness was really low.

Google told me that I get up at 5:30 am every morning.

Idiot. That's just when the alarm goes off. I get up when I'm good and ready to

Sounds like a good use for a Chromecast. I'm down to very few headphone jack things between bluetooth and Chromecast. I'll probably put the USB-C to 3.5 adapter on the car tape adapter. Or maybe start looking at aftermarket head units with bluetooth or Android Auto.
