Default SOA Problem 126

I am doing this problem and got stuck when trying to find E(X-5)+. I looked at the solution and noticed they used the formula of (theta)/(alpha - 1) for E(X). But on the tables it shows that formula can only be used when alpha is an integer. Can anyone please help me clarify this?
