My dad is 76 and in very good health. Not only is he looking forward to the trip, he INSISTS that it is time he experienced the first class airline experience! We could have gotten there for $600 with no legroom. We could have gotten there for $1,000 with extra legroom. But no, we need to spend $3,000 each for first class! That is no problem, because my dad is paying it all!

I told him I would cover the 7 hotel nights, but we are agreed that we don't go there to experience the hotel room, so apart from separate beds it will be modest. He will also cover the cost of getting me from DSM -> BWI (economy).

So, quite a turn of events. I went from bargain basement by myself to lap of luxury. Trip will be late April.

Christmas/NYE would be amazing.

But maybe around Thanksgiving.
If you don't mind less sunlight, I think it could be a great value. And Paris is 11 degrees warmer in December (36/48 vs 27/37).
