Had a physical yesterday and the nurse practitioner asked me if I wanted to go on Metformin(a diabetes medicine) to lose weight. I am not diabetic but given my weight and blood sugar I meet the criteria for "prediabetic." Apparently now Metformin has a track record in preventing diabetes, not just managing it once you have it.

I still have some more research to do but I'm considering it.

Nah, Dwayne Johnson added 70 lbs of muscle in 6 months naturally.

Isn't that the diabetes drug that they say might extend lifespan? I think they did a study and diabetics that took Metformin lived longer than non-diabetics who didn't take it. Google tells me that is the drug I was thinking of:

I sometimes listen to health related podcasts and have heard doctors say they take Metformin even though they don't need it, just because they think it might make them live longer.

But do you want really want to put synthesized drugs in your body...? As someone w/ family members who've had poor experiences w/ meds like these....personally, I'd want to see if I could take care of things naturally before putting any crap in my system that could possibly end up doing more harm than good. Totally mho after seeing what it's done to others.

Well my sister who lives in a nursing home(she has MS) slipped into diabetes, went on Metformin, went form 270 to 155 in a year(she's 5'11") and went off it and is no longer diabetic. So I'm thinking genetically I might be one who is prone for it to work really well.

I've been struggling with my weight for about 20 years now. I've already tried the "natural" route.

There is also the prospect of if I get the weight down low enough I can go off my cholesterol med.

Yeah, I think that sounds like something worth trying.
