I just looked at a map of cases by state. New York is waaaaaaaay ahead of every other state. wtf!

Of course, but in cultures/families like my own, where a funeral and viewing is a very big part of the grieving and closure process when someone dies, being unable to have an immediate funeral can be heartbreaking.

If something happened to my parents or grandparents it would be very risky for me to travel there right now, since I'd risk infecting people as I'm in a high exposure area plus travel is becoming impossible anyway. Waiting months for a memorial service would be painful.

I think grieving and closure are very important for most people. Having just experienced a tragic and unexpected death in the family, the funeral and grieving together was very important for all involved. Waiting several months or doing it remotely would not have been the same.
