Another issue with the PS3, dealing with HDTV. Games are required to support 720p, with the 1080i&p optional. It cannot upscale to 1080i. Many (earlier?) HDTVs support 480i&p, and 1080i, but not 720p and can cannot upscale the resolution. SO - if you have such a TV, you will be playing PS3 in 480p, AT BEST.

Ouch.

Could be possibly patched, but just another sign of a less than complete finished product.

I think (almost) all CRT HDTVs are 1080i/480ip.

ah, forgot about CRT HDTVs.

DLP, LCD, and Plasmas have been 720p for quite some time (at least 2+ years)

good call on the warning then Pres.

I know that MS was upfront that not all games would be backwards compatible, and they listed those (most were not the extremely popular games). I know this wasn't planned and is a problem, but depending on what games, that could seriously tick people off
It almost seems like you want the PS3 to suck.

I'm a fan of PS1 and PS2, but PS3 is sounding like a rushed product. It really should be delayed until it's really ready.

I'm just hesitant (and was of the 360 too) until it hits the public.

but let's review,
at the demo at the Tokyo game show the unit overheated and shut down
US shipment cut from 400,000 to 200,000
problems with backwards compatibility that was not previously disclosed
issues with HD signals (specifically CRT HDTVs)
and the long list of notes mentioned by another poster (i.e. no rumble in the controllers, batteries in them can't be changed, etc...)

it just doesn't sound like Sony has it all worked out just yet...and MS had issues at launch with the 360 too. It happens.

But I wouldn't be camping out for the first release.

Oh, and I heard ebay has restricted who can sell PS3's...you have to be a 'super seller' to sell them, so that's gotta stink for those camping out hoping to sell them on ebay

I really think Nintendo can take back the game market with a good product this weekend. 2 million out early has gotta help big time over 200,000. Also, from the reviews I've heard, the graphics aren't as good on Nintendo ... but the "fun factor" is back with the new controllers. Isn't that what gaming systems are supposed to be about? fun?

Go Nintendo.

Tomshardware had a good article comparing Nintendo to the Democrats and Sony PS3 to the Republicans and this weekend is a repeat of the election.

I'm hoping for the Wii, there are a couple of avenues online at midnight tonight that may have the ps3 but if i grab one of those it's going on ebay.

Not searching for the article mentioned, but i can't imagine how nintendo is the democrats, and sony the republicans. Nintendo is certainly the grand old party, and seems to offer more family friendly games.
