RIP Mrs Oleson (from Little House). Maybe she's more well-knowner than sticking her in this thread, but I don't think she deserves her own thread, either.

Hal Blaine, legendary drummer who played iconic opening to 'Be My Baby,' dies at 90

Quote:
Hal Blaine, the Hall of Fame session drummer and virtual one-man soundtrack of the 1960s and '70s who played on the songs of Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley and the Beach Boys and laid down one of music's most memorable opening riffs on the Ronettes' "Be My Baby," died Monday.

Blaine died of natural causes at his home in Palm Desert, California, his son-in-law, Andy Johnson, told The Associated Press. He was 90.

On hearing of his death, the Beach Boys' Brian Wilson called him "the greatest drummer ever."

Chicago celebrity Marshall Brodine died this week. If you grew up in Chicago and/or watched Bozo on WGN, you would know MB as Wizzo the magician. While out of character MB was known for selling magic sets.

Before cable TV, WGN was a staple in the 1970s, and many of the shows' biggest names names have passed on, like Bob Bell, Ray Raynor, Frasier Thomas, Roy Brown, and now Brodine. Another name from my youth passes on.

That's a pretty damn good list. I think my paper said he was a member of the Beach Boys, but I had never heard of him.

His wiki says he played on six consecutive Grammy Record of the Year winners:

Herb Alpert & the Tijuana Brass in 1966 for "A Taste of Honey"
Frank Sinatra in 1967 for "Strangers in the Night"
The 5th Dimension in 1968 for "Up, Up and Away"
Simon & Garfunkel in 1969 "Mrs. Robinson"
The 5th Dimension in 1970 for "Aquarius/Let the Sunshine In"
Simon & Garfunkel in 1971 for "Bridge over Troubled Water"

he was a member of the wrecking crew, the name given to a group of studio musicians in LA (los angeles not louisiana) that appeared on thousands of songs in the 60s and 70s. the musicians were used on many songs by the beach boys

I read that as well.
None of those acts had drummers, so a session guy was required.
While Dennis was the Beach Boys' drummer, he wasn't as good as Brian wanted.

Unrelated... I actually met someone named Tennille last week. i haven't met her spouse yet, but I strongly suspect that he can't get away from being called "Captain" by almost everyone he knows.
