My dog died this month... He was sick with cancer. Vet told us last year he had 9 to 12 months, and he made it 14. I had no illusions about him getting better. He was marginal up until the last week, and but then he couldn't eat anything, not even steak. He just kept getting slower and slower, then he reached the point where we knew he needed that last trip to the vet. Damn that was hard.

Our sheltie died about two years ago or so. Within another four, I expect to be contributing to this (or a similar) thread re: our 11yo maltese.

I had to put my 15 year old cat to sleep today. I know I did the right thing, he hadn't been feeling well for awhile and this weekend seemed to be in obvious pain. As much as I prepared myself for it, it was still tough. I've had him my entire adult life.

Sorry Lonegirl.

RIP, Kitty.

I am not going to cope well at all when I lose my oldest.
