Default A thread for my obsessions

When I get into something, I go ALL IN for a short period of time, then for various reasons I either lose interest, or my interest reduces to a normal level.

Historical examples:
- Sewing
- Crocheting
- Knitting
- Cross stitch
- Collecting antique sewing machines
- The color pink!
- Quilting
- Eyewear
- Blazers as a fashion choice
- Mason jar salads
- Mason jars in general
- Nail polish
- Toms shoes
- Chuck Taylor low top shoes
- Rothys shoes
- Cold brew
- Kitchen appliances
- Mechanical keyboards
- Loose leaf tea
- Pilates
- Yoga
- Skirts with petticoats
- Red velvet cupcakes
- Switchblades
- Wax seals
- Mr. Potato Heads

And these are the ones coming to mind at the moment; probably not even half of them.

I used to feel pretty embarrassed that I was like this, but recently I've decided to embrace that it's who I am. And I'm creating this thread to document my stupid obsessions in real time.

So my newest forming obsession is brewing my own kombucha (because it would be so much cheaper), so yesterday I purchased all the materials on Amazon and it should be here Thursday.

I already maintain sourdough starter, so I'm familiar with feeding a live culture, but kombucha is a little different. You have to make (or inherit) a SCOBY (symbiotic culture of bacteria and yeast) first, then you ferment tea and sugar with the SCOBY for a couple of weeks, then you transfer the kombucha to sealed bottles with juices or fruit, separated from the SCOBY, to create the carbonation. So it takes a few weeks per batch, but I'm pretty excited to give it a try.

I'm curious what getting obsessed with mechanical keyboards means. Do you own like 10 mechanical keyboards? If you only own 1 for each PC you're not obsessed, you're just a normal nerd

I currently own twice as many mechanical keyboards as I do computers, so.

I got into loose leaf tea for a while too. Researching all different kinds, getting a nice pouch (forget if there is a better word for this), visiting the local tea store with tons of options, contemplating how best to steep it well and consistently at work, and then doing essentially nothing with all of it. Fun times! I think I still have a bunch of tea leaves at my house.

Once when I was a kid my mom said this about my stepmother "She obsesses over one thing and overdoes it until she's tired of it then moves on to something else." The "things" were, like, a certain brand of tortilla chips. Of course my mom said this like it was a terrible character flaw, and that stuck with me for many decades - only recently did I unpack what a stupid thing that is to be critical about. Unless you are wasting a ton of money or hurting someone I don't see the problem.

So... Antique sewing machines? As in, you have/had more than one? Did you actually use them or were they for decoration?

They're great as door stops.

@NA: Ever have two obsessions simultaneously? Or just one-at-a-time?
