Default Consulting Actuary - Manhattan or Long Island office of Milliman

Milliman, Inc. has an opening for a qualified actuary with predictive modeling experience to work in their Garden City, New York or Manhattan office. The position involves building predictive models for a variety of applications, reviewing clients’ predictive models (with the goal of identifying methodology improvements) as well as performing reserve reviews. Ideal candidate should have the following qualifications:
  • ACAS or FCAS.
  • 7+ years’ experience including significant predictive modeling experience preferably in a commercial insurance/reinsurance company setting, with thorough knowledge of conventional methodologies (such as generalized linear models) as well as more advanced predictive modeling techniques (such as regularized regression, GAMs, GLMMs, tree-based methods, Bayesian methods, etc.). Experience in reserving is a plus.
  • Strong technical skills, with knowledge of programming. Individual must have the ability to manage data, and automate complex data manipulation tasks, in SAS, R, SQL or other programming languages.
  • Detail oriented and self-motivated with good organization skills
  • High energy level
  • Excellent written/oral communication skills
  • Ability to train and supervise junior staff
