I waste time on my phone, not on a tablet, but my go-to time wasters are:
  • The actuarial outpost
  • Catan (android)
  • Nonograms Katana (android)
  • Sudoku
  • Simple Spider (two suited)

Maybe I should also mention Flow and Simon Tatham's Portable Puzzle Collection. The latter has mediocre implementations of 39 puzzles, and is completely free. Some of the puzzles are available with better interfaces elsewhere (mines) and some I've never looked at, but there are a lot I haven't seen anywhere else that are fun. They range from true time-wasters (a puzzle where you untangle lines) to mathematically interesting things (did you know you can design a puzzle around the four-color theorem?)

If you like math puzzles, Euclidea is pretty cool. It's a nicely implemented game where you build Euclidean constructions -- you know, all those shapes you are supposed to be able to make with just a compass and a straight edge.

I don't know if any of those have been released for iThings.

Lucky for you, Apple Arcade comes out tomorrow. Just $5 (and one month free trial I believe) you get access to hundreds of full games (supposedly with no microtransactions).

I'll second Simon Tatham's. I just spent a couple hours flying to San Diego while playing Loopy. Towers and Keen are my favorites.
