Most profs I had were okay - nothing to write home about .. but Mary Hardy helped me actually understand the material, rather than just regurgitating it.

I'll always be grateful to Mary Hardy for both her honesty and encouragement as an advisor as well.

I heard Prof Tan enjoys the occasional dip in the student jar if you know what I mean. But lots of my co-workers had a crush on him when they went to Waterloo, so if he can pull it off...kudos to him.

He's super smart and sociable too. Adds to his charm and sexiness.

i've never had reynolds, panjer or brown, but out of those i did, hardy was by far the best teacher, tan was good too. drekic, wilmot, freeland and several others were also good. but jun cai freaking sucked. i don't care how smart or how good an actuary he is, but if you can't teach, please do not become a prof. not only he couldn't speak, but his notes were awful too.

anyone ever had phelim boyle? an actuary, but didn't really teach actuarial courses, except portfolio/asset management. retired in 2006, i think, but left quite a big impact on financial engineering.

Brown, Panjer, Bennett and Hardy were the best for me.

About Cai - I had him twice. The second time I found that he could speak much better and his notes were awesome! (First time it was terrible though... adaptation?)

Another good prof (new to UW) is David Landriault. He's a young guy with a French accent.

I like Mary Hardy because she explaines the materials very clearly although the exams are hard. I like Tan as well. He's very nice, I had a very deep conversation with him.

Jun Cai's exams are easy but I didn't learn too much from him...
