Canada Current rough wages for act.sci. co-op students?

Thanks to everyone for your helpful answers on my last question. Even with the "it'll take longer to graduate" thing, my daughter's still very interested in Waterloo and the co-op program. So we're digging deeper, including getting into the dreaded "how much will it cost?" issue.

So to help us make reasonable estimates, can anyone tell me what the rough current going wage for U.Waterloo act.sci. co-op students during a work term would be? I'm sure it'll be different for a 1st-year vs. a near-graduate, but even a really really rough ballpark estimate ($10-15/hr? $15-20?) will be a great help.

Ah. More Googling found me this handy table on uwaterloo.ca which shows 2012 rough information. Sweet!

But as long as I have the thread up, are there any current or former UWaterloo co-op students here who can fill in things like "what % taxes etc. are usually withheld", typical cost of living (shared apt. or whatever) during work terms, or such other information?

Hi.. it might be a bit late but here are some answers that might help:

I am a current UW co-op student and I don't pay taxes because my expenses (i.e. tuition/rent/other tax deductible fees) are higher than my co-op salary (considering that I only work 4 months each year. If it's a 8-month work term, then I will have to pay ~ 20% tax on the portion of income that my deductibles couldn't cover). Cost of living really varies depending on where you work and your life style. Typically if you work in downtown Toronto you expect paying $700-$1200/month for rent, and if you eat out, then you probably pay $500/month for food.

Hope this helps.
