A national-level actuarial conference was in session when the World Trade Building was destroyed. When the conference ended, a gaggle of actuarial women were stranded far from home, as airplanes were not permitted to fly in US airspace. They rented a car, and the WC Chicks formed. Polls: What's up with the "42" and "potatoe" option?
Very simply, it came to be that many folks couldn't answer a poll from the answers given. We needed a "catch all" response. Since 42 is the answer to the question of life, the universe and everything, it seemed the best alternative. Later, potatoe became the rebel alternative.
While that's possible, 42 was an active and popular poster on the AO who predated the poll option named after him. He was also at the least associated with .
