Have either of the petition board members done anything to reach out and look for support? I haven't seen anything, and I'm certainly not going to petition for someone who can't even be bothered to let us know that they care if we give them a vote or not.

I have been contacted by Tim Cardinal, whom I've worked with on various SOA things.

He sent emails only to people in his email contacts (as per the email he sent me)

Keep in mind, the SOA doesn't let the petition candidates email the general membership unless they end up on the official ballots. So people have to develop their own method of reaching out.

(and, unlike the SOA, it doesn't seem any of them scraped the actuarial directory)

I get emails from Jim Glickman. Since I don't feel like researching, why is the SOA not letting more people be nominated in the first place? Or is he not in good with the current board so they only want one of their own taking over?

A big piece is your willingness to support the current strategic vision of the SOA. So if you think the SOA is on the wrong track, you probably won't get past the nominating committee. You won't hear that from the SOA, because their deliberations and feedback are confidential.

The Nominating Committee's directive is to nominate generally 3 candidates, but at least 2, for president-elect. But despite their mandate to generally nominate 3 candidates, and despite multiple other candidates expressing a desire to run, and no obvious reason why they should be disallowed, I can't remember the last time they put forth more than two names. 5+ years?

Well, hopefully anyone who has achieved fellowship at least knows of the existence of the Actuarial Outpost. Even Donald Trump would have had a hard time getting on the ballot if he had restricted himself to only emailing people in his Contacts directory.

The AO is seen as unsavory by some.

Keep in mind Jim has been doing this for more than one year.... and he knows lots of people who also have lots of contacts. Some people may have shared info with him.

I don't know exactly how Jim has built up his mailing list, I was just trying to explain why other petition nominees are not emailing a lot of people.

Yeah. The SOA board doesn't appreciate criticism.

Look, most people do not appreciate criticism. Most people certainly don't appreciate ridicule of their actions and decisions. To expect otherwise is a bit silly.

But putting that aside, I understand lots of people don't have time to deal with the AO. People have lots of things going on in their lives, and they pick and choose what they're going to do. So chill, y'all.
