Default CA to split?

Just curious if anyone has any thoughts on CA splitting and what that would do to P&C industry there.

Would it be three nightmare DOIs to work with or any chance maybe it would reduce regulation somehow? I'd wager the first, but I like to think optimistically.

I thought about this too, and I wouldn't put my money on reduced regulation.

  1. They need to name the new states "North California," "California," and "East California." We have plenty of "North," "South," and "West" named states, but no "East" named state. And geographically, this naming would be far more appropriate.

  2. House of Reps shouldn't see any (real) impact . . . but I doubt that there's room in the Senate for four more egos seats.

  3. Unless the Watch Dog splits into 3 . . . I don't think that there will be "additional" regulatory issues with the two name-qualified new states.

BTW, I think that #2 above is one of the big drivers for this initiative; and will be the primary reason that it falls short in the Senate.

But... 50 is such a nice number! The symmetry in the flag and the Senate is pleasing, albeit inconsequential. I'd like to see a detailed list of pros and cons, because all I think about is "headache," especially as a SoCal resident.

SoCal as currently defined? Or as the new proposal would define it?

(Evidence++ for "East Cali")

To answer the OP, it would be three times the hassle, +/- some very small unknown factor.

As currently defined. The proposal would put me in "California" / Cali proper / New California etc.

That's all I need is to have to do 3 California rate filings instead of 1.
VOTE AGAINST IT!!
